REALTOR® of Distinction: Lolly Fabian
IF Lolly Fabian wasn’t a
successful real estate agent in the
thriving East Cooper area of the
Lowcountry, she would certainly be
well-suited to serve as a spokesman
for the Charleston Area Chamber of
Commerce.
Lolly, a native of Harlingen,
Texas, whose father was a pilot in the
U.S. Air Force, attended 16 different
schools before arriving in the
Charleston area in 1954. She never
moved again.
“We came here from Marietta,
Georgia, and when we drove in on
Savannah Highway, I fell in love
with Charleston and said I would
never leave,” she says. “No matter
where I go, Charleston is still the
most beautiful place I’ve ever been.”
Lolly, who is with Prudential
Carolina, deals with residential
property, mostly existing homes and
mostly in East Cooper. Twenty years
ago, after raising four children, she
decided to try her hand at selling real
estate.
“A friend of mine was in real
estate, and I fi gured that if she could
do it, I could probably do it, too,”
she comments.
Because the Charleston area has
so much to offer,
Lolly is confident
that the real estate business here will
continue to boom, even as home
sales begin to falter in other parts of
the country.
“I don’t see any indication at all
that the market will crash,” she says.
“Residential sales
in the Charleston
area are going
to continue to
rise. I don’t think
anyone predicted
they would rise
like they have,
and they might
not continue
to escalate at the same rate. But I
certainly don’t see any indication
that they’re going to decline.”
She cited several reasons why she
thinks the market will remain hot.
“Everybody wants to move
here,” she says. “People come here
on vacation and fall in love with it
and want to come back here to live.
It’s a great place to raise a family. The
people are so friendly. They make
everybody feel welcome.”
Lolly also mentioned the Charleston area’s mild climate and proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and the important role the city has played in American history. “Charleston isn’t a touristy town like Myrtle Beach. It’s very traditional. You’ve got history, the beach and the lakes. You can pretty much do anything you want to do here except go snow skiing. And you can do that if you want to take a drive into the mountains,” she points out.
Lolly has no regrets about her decision to get into the real estate business. She said her job is both challenging and exciting and that she enjoys meeting new people and helping them fi nd the home they want. “You always get a rush when you make a sale,” she says. “It’s a spectacular feeling.” The only thing Lolly doesn’t like about the real estate business is that she’s not always in control of the situation, which sometimes leads to problems for her clients. “There are so many people involved that unexpected things can happen at the last minute,” she notes. “That can upset buyers and sellers.”
Two of Lolly’s four children, a son and a daughter, still live in the Charleston area. Her other two daughters are in Panama City, Florida, and Macon, Georgia. She has eight grandchildren.
